Rice Farming in Ghana is mostly concentrated in Asutuare and around the Ho | Togo Border in Ghana. The majority of Rice Farmers in Ghana engage in small-scale cropping i.e., between 1No – 5No Hectares planting twice in a Calendar Year.

The biggest challenge for these Small-Scale Farmers is upon harvesting the Rice needs to be dried before sent to the Mills for threshing. They depend largely on Sunlight for the drying process. What this translates into in during the Rainy Season i.e., almost half the Calendar Year these Farmers are incapacitated to conveniently progress drying of their harvest. Farmers can plant, harvest but can’t dry because circa half of the cultivation period lies within the rainy season and this in effect makes the Farmers ineffective and “trapped” in such unproductive cycle.
